MINERALS - Dynamic Accumulators


These plants accumulate specific concentrated nutrients and can be used in plant fertilisers such as in compost tea formulas to feed other plants which might be deficient in those nutrients.  One example is cobblers pegs that grow when there is a copper deficiency in the soil.  They take this mineral up through their tap roots and the mineral is brought to the soil surface when the aerial part of the plant dies down.

 

Plants as dynamic accumulators:

      Arrowroot - calcium

Borage - silica, potassium

Bracken - potassium, phosphorus, manganese, iron, copper

Buckwheat - phosphorus

Carrot leaves - magnesium, potassium

Chicory - calcium, potassium

Clovers - nitrogen, phosphorus

Comfrey - silica, nitrogen, magnesium, calcium, potassium, iron

      Groundsel - iron

Kelp - sodium, iron, nitrogen, magnesium, calcium, iodine

Lemon Balm - phosphorus

Marigold - phosphorus

Stinging Nettle - sodium, sulphur, nitrogen, calcium, potassium, iron, copper

Strawberry leaves - iron

      Yarrow - magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, copper

 

Polyculture, though it often requires more labour has several advantages over monoculture and polyculture is one of the principles of permaculture.
